Fly-Outs
Caribou River Braids
Mid August through September
During our Silver season; we offer a fly-out trip to The Braids—just a short five-minute floatplane ride from the lodge. This spot is truly special. Thousands of silvers gather here in a narrow river channel that opens into a broad, shallow lake. When conditions line up, you’ll see them “tailing” in the shallows like redfish or bonefish on the flats. It’s an incredible sight and an even better opportunity for sight-casting to aggressive fish with surface flies and streamers. On the right day, The Braids delivers some of the best topwater silver salmon fishing on the planet. If sight-fishing for silvers in skinny water or chasing all-day topwater action is in your blood, this is a day you don’t want to miss.
North Creek Fishing Camp
Late June through September
Just a 30-minute flight from Hoodoo Lodge, North Creek flows into the Bering Sea and offers one of Alaska’s most unique fishing experiences. Within the first mile from the ocean, anglers can hook into chrome-bright king, silver, and chum salmon, along with powerful sea-run dolly varden. These fish are fresh, fierce, and unforgettable—changing with the rhythm of the season.
A typical North Creek trip includes two days of fishing and one night at our comfortable camp, located just off the black sand beach. The camp features clean cabins with cots, sleeping bags, and electricity for lights. Meals are simple and hearty, prepared by our lodge chef, and when conditions allow, there’s nothing better than fresh fish cooked over an open fire for lunch.
Guests love the sound of the surf, the wild beauty of the coastline, and the incredible fishing this remote river delivers. If you enjoy beach walks, cabin living, and the thrill of untamed water, North Creek is an adventure not to be missed.
Hoodoo Lake
This popular day trip from the lodge begins with a short, scenic ten-minute floatplane flight to remote Hoodoo Lake. After a brief hike, you’ll find yourself casting to aggressive dollies and char feeding behind spawning salmon. The fishing can be exceptional, but so is the experience—surrounded by stunning wilderness and witnessing the incredible salmon spawning cycle firsthand. Brown bears are often spotted along the way, adding to the sense of wild Alaska.
Midday, your guide will prepare a shore lunch of fresh-caught fish cooked over an open fire—a guest favorite. After a full day on the water, you’ll return by floatplane to Hoodoo Lodge in time for appetizers and cocktails before dinner.
